Major Gaurav Arya is an Indian journalist and former army officer who enlisted in the Indian army. In a broader spectrum of job descriptions, he is a writer and a public speaker and currently, he is working as the senior consulting editor of strategic affairs at Republic Media Network.
Major Gaurav Arya was born on 25th September 1972. He was born into a family where his parents were IAS officers and as a result of that, he grew up with a patriotic mindset. From a young age onwards, he interested in enlisting in the army in order to serve his motherland. Major Gaurav Arya did his schooling in Delhi, his birthplace. He graduated from St. Stephen’s College in Delhi and then went on to study at IITC in Lucknow. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and an MBA in Marketing and Sales.
After he done with his graduation, he appeared for the SSB exam which he was able to crack. Following that, he appointed as the Second Lieutenant in the Indian Army. He served under the 57th Short Service Commission and at that time, those who enlisted in the army for Short-term service served for about 5-6 years. Gaurav Arya’s service began in the year 1993, one year following his SSB results.

After serving in the Indian armed services for five years, he retired as a Major in 1999 owing to medical concerns. After leaving the military, he pursued an MBA in marketing and sales at IITC, Lucknow, and then entered the corporate world. Gaurav Arya rose to prominence in July 2016 after his piece “Open Letter To Burhan Wani” went viral. The letter was about how Hurriyat leaders are using Kashmiri youth for their own agenda, which has nothing to do with improving the life of Kashmiri inhabitants. Several notable Indians, including the then-serving Army General of India, praised the message. He then invited to speak on News Hour, a Times Now news segment hosted by Arnab Goswami. In 2017, he joined Republic TV Network as Senior Consulting Editor.
